Wurlitzer: The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920) Screening with Live Soundtrack at Pollokshaws Burgh Hall
To celebrate this spooky season, on Wednesday 23rd October, Pollokshaws Burgh Hall is showcasing German horror classic; The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920). To accompany the film screening, internationally acclaimed organist; Aaron Hawthorne, will be performing a live, fully improvised soundtrack on Scotland’s only Wurlitzer organ.

The Govanhill Litterpick Group are hosting another community litterpick this Saturday from 10:30-12:30pm. As a community-led initiative to keep Govanhill’s streets and lanes clean, they are reliant on the efforts of volunteers each month to both organise the litterpicks and participate in them.

Featuring works by Katherine Chapman, Laurie Gribben, and Alex Pelouch, this event delves into the psychological and emotional intricacies of horror. Each piece challenges you to confront your own thresholds of discomfort and find unexpected solace within.
Community journalism opportunity for women negatively impacted by gambling
In order to raise awareness and reduce stigma around gambling – often seen as a hidden addiction – Greater Govanhill is running a journalism skills course for women who have been negatively affected by this issue.

Capoeira Class Govanhill Neighbourhood Centre
Alongside Mestre Baiano, Ponta-Cabeça offers regular classes of Capoeira Regional in Govanhill. The classes take place every Thursday from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Govanhill Neighbourhood Centre, 6 Daisy St, Govanhill, Glasgow G42 8JL.
Lessons involve learning capoeira music, movements and playing in a roda. We also teach related techniques from traditional Brazilian culture, including puxada de rede and maculêlê.
Fundraiser for Palestine and Sudan 10 May: Scandal & WSHWSH presents JAWAHIR
Scandal is a multicultural club night run by South Asian queer students involved in Scotland’s Hip-hop scene incorporating Bhangra and other genres.
WSHWSH is a collective for MENA/SWANA folk to meet, party, and get sweaty on the dance floor. WSHWSH aim to provide spaces where we can celebrate our culture by dancing to some of the best tunes from our region, mixed in with a range of other genres like techno and Afrobeats.
