Job Description 

Job title: Sales, Partnerships and Funding Officer

Location: Mostly home based with some office working a possibility

Terms: 0.5 part-time (17.5 hours per week). 1 year temporary contract. 

Salary/rate:£24,000 pro rata (£12,000 annually)

Deadline: 5pm on Monday 13 December (to start work in January)

About us:

Greater Govanhill CIC is a community-rooted media organisation. We aim to challenge negative stereotypes, provide a platform for marginalised voices, break down cultural barriers and bring people together.

We publish an award-winning free, solutions focused, multilingual community magazine. We also produce a radio show on a local community radio station. And we run training workshops and events.

We operate as a social enterprise in a mixed revenue model generating income through advertising sales, memberships, donations, events, workshops and grant funding.  Find out more here.

About the role:

We are still a very new company. We are therefore looking for someone who can help us develop through building these income streams, enabling us to grow. 

The key elements to this job will be: advertising sales; grant funding applications; membership building; and developing partnerships with like-minded organisations on a number of different levels. 

We are a small team and aim to create a supportive work environment. The post holder will work closely with our founder and editor-in-chief Rhiannon Davies to create new opportunities and build on existing ones. 

Please note, that as this position is grant funded, the contract is only for 1 year. We hope that after 1 year, we will be in a position to extend the contract, but this is not guaranteed at this stage. 

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain relationships with local businesses and organisations

  • Develop partnerships with different types of organisations for joint projects

  • Sell advertising space in our print magazine – and increase our digital ad sales possibilities 

  • Issue invoices and follow up as required

  • Develop our engaged membership programme and increase member numbers

  • Research grant funding

  • Take a lead on funding applications and monitoring

  • Contribute to discussion on strategy and business growth

  • Additional research and admin tasks as required

Candidate requirements*:

Essential

  • Interest in helping to build independent/community media

  • Knowledge of the Southside of Glasgow

  • Proficient with commonly used computer programmes such as Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Experience of using file sharing platforms such as Google Drive

  • Able to take the initiative and work proactively to seek new opportunities

  • Able to work as a part of a team 

  • A people person with experience in customer-facing roles, and a confident telephone manner

Desirable

  • Experience of sales, ideally in a media/advertising context

  • Knowledge of the media

  • Experience working for a social enterprise/third sector organisation

  • Experience of working with membership organisations

  • Based in Govanhill or one of the surrounding neighbourhoods
