In our last issue, we asked our photography team to look at old pictures of places in Govanhill and take new pictures of those same places today. In this article we share the results of that photo challenge assigned to the group for our local heritage issue.

As hubs of social life, pubs have been woven into the fabric of British culture, serving as gathering spots for generations. Continuing in our collaborative series with Simon Murphy, we spoke to Claire Henry, a potter who lives in Govanhill, about her life and work.

‘Govanhill Street Level’ is an exhibition of the photography of Simon Murphy. Twenty portraits of local characters stare back at you from A1 prints displayed in shop windows. Greater Govanhill joined him on a walk about the neighbourhood, to see how his portraits paint a picture of the area.
