Greater Govanhill are looking for a new board member!

Greater Govanhill is looking for an enthusiastic, community and business-minded person to join its board, who can help our award-winning and ambitious team continue its exciting work.

We’re interested in hearing from anyone who feels they may have skills and/or experiences to share. But at this time, we are particularly interested to hear from anyone with experience in any of the following areas:

  • Social enterprise or non-profit business management

  • Financial management

  • HR

  • Advertising sales

What is Greater Govanhill?

Greater Govanhill is a not-for-profit community magazine, registered as a community interest company. We have a team of four, and a board of six made up of people who are local to the area. Our voluntary contributors come from all walks of life and provide news, imagery and inspiration for our quarterly, free magazine and website.

Our magazine has been running since 2020 and recently moved to a new community newsroom in the heart of Govanhill.

You can read more about our story here.

We recently opened our Community Newsroom, and collaborative co-working space right in the heart of the neighbourhood.

What do we expect from you?

Our board meets every three months to help our founding editor work through priorities and strategy. Board members help with everything from setting up events, recruitment, filling out applications and acting as a sounding board for new ideas and plans. Meetings are usually held in person and in the evening.

Board members help to provide strategic direction, set organisational aims and ensure that the organisation remains true to its purpose. The directors are also responsible for ensuring that the company meets its statutory and other obligations.
For more information about the legal role of CIC directors, please see this document.

This is an unpaid role, and you do not need to have previous board experience to apply. You may be asked to attend training relevant to the role - paid for by the company.

Applicants must live in or near Govanhill — or have a connection to the area. We are especially keen to hear from people from groups typically under-represented on boards.

Interested? Please fill in this form to apply. Deadline is 28 Feb. And we will be responding to all applicants the following week.

If you have any questions, please get in touch by emailing hello@greatergovanhill.com
