Role Purpose

This is an opportunity to contribute to an exciting year-long programme of activity by Rosie’s Disobedient Press (RDP) through which we are developing a robust network of support for practitioners that use writing as an essential part of their visual arts practice. The project intends to help practitioners from marginalised perspectives sustain creative practice, with a focus on working class, queer and feminist practices. The project seeks to provide growth and opportunity through giving emerging Scottish practices local support and international focus, connections and opportunities through the two complementary strands of activity described below.

The project includes two strands of activity. The first strand focuses on the production of our printed publications series including two pamphlets by individual authors and a collection of writing from a range of local and international artists and writers. The second strand of activity focuses on Strengthening foundational networks by fostering the growing community of Artist Writers in Scotland: A pilot scheme mentoring one emerging art writer over six months; monthly clinics at our base in Burning House Books, Govanhill and development of online and physical open access learning and resources. Accessibility is key to this work, with ‘Supporting Art Writing practices in Scotland’ allowing scope to experiment with new selection processes, translation services and reach through a defined partnership strategy.

Potential Candidate

This job has been created as a learning and development role for someone with little or no previous experience to gain knowledge in the sector. This is to give someone the opportunity to see if a role in the arts and working with artists is right for them, gaining practical experience which they then can use as evidence when applying for permanent roles elsewhere.

We welcome applications from those living in a G41/G42 postcode and are keen to provide job opportunities in the places where the press is based. Also from those who face barriers accessing opportunities and are often discriminated against in these processes. In particular we want to hear from those who are not eligible for government-supported employment schemes.

We actively encourage applications from those with no previous experience of working in the creative sector but have an interest in arts and writing. The Job Spec may seem broad but we wanted to give a realistic representation of the day to day, we will be supporting this role and also providing additional training opportunities.

Rosie’s is a team of two people, and Rosie the dog. This role will take our staff size up to 3 so the potential candidate must feel comfortable working in a small team and doing lone working.

Applications can be written, visual or sent as an audio/voice note.

We would need a maximum 1 A4 expression of interest, this can be about you, your interests, previous jobs or experience working with people (this can also be voluntary), hobbies and a short paragraph on why you would like to work with Rosie’s Disobedient Press.
