First Greater Govanhill Print Magazine Launching Soon!
Thanks to the overwhelming support of individuals and local organisations, we have smashed our Crowdfunder target meaning the first print issue of Greater Govanhill will be out later this year.
A huge thank you to 63 people and organisations who made it possible by supporting our Crowdfunder, including:
Jimmy Davies, Sue Jarrell, Terry Richardson, Carolyn Sawers, Paul Houlihan, Lynne, Jennifer Leybourne, Jean Alcock, Lynn Forsyth, Angela Ireland, Beth Harvey, Ellie Moffataje, Yasmine Ben-Afia, The Glad Cafe, Denise Allen, The Wee Retreat CIC, Awesome Glasgow, Emilie Reed, Natalie Whittle, Iain Smith, Royal Bank of Scotland, Dylan Macdonald, Claire Gormley, Lewis Olsson, Neil McDermott, Fiona Quillec, Fatima Uygun, , Bruce Downie, Rose Davies, Saskia McCracken, Joe Trodden, Jill Keegan, The Feel Good Women's Group, Marion Eele, Gary Painter, Marian, Ian Aitken, Kirsty, Locavore CIC, Lauren Neil, Bill Breckenridge, Alex, Vivienne Wilson, Ruby Zajac, Ben Duax & Toni Tochel.
The aim is to print 5000 copies of the A4 magazine, which will be distributed for free to as many pick up points around the neighbourhood as we can get it to - shops, cafes, health centres, community spaces etc. We’ll also be working with community groups and food banks to get it into people’s homes. If you are interested in joining Milk Cafe, Locavore, Al Khair, The Wee Retreat and the Awesome Foundation in advertising in the very first issue of the magazine, please get in touch.
The first issue will be looking at the ‘post-Covid’ future for Govanhill - how we keep community spirit strong and stay connected in these strange new times. Reflecting the multicultural make-up of Govanhill, there will be features on Romanian, Roma, Pakistani and Ukrainian experiences of the area, as well as an article on Black Lives Matter. We’ll also be including useful information on things like tenants rights and where to access food support. And we’ll be exploring the built environment, both its heritage and future. The magazine will feature some fresh new voices, young and old, from many different backgrounds along with original illustrations and photography.
