Last week we kicked off Buenafest with a live Greater Govanhill show from Cafè Buena Vida, hosted by myself and Arij, one of our regular contributors and one of the New Scots, who was the runner-up in the Refugee Festival Media Awards.  The show focused on our latest issue, which is packed with all things art, culture and subculture from the streets of Govanhill.

For those who may not have picked up a copy yet, we brought the magazine to our listeners through readings and discussion. One of the local poets, Peter Mohan, sent in a reading of his poem, Govanhill Just Won’t Stop. (You can read more of Peter’s work on his blog.)

Our reporter Devon, sent a reading of her article, Uncovering the Southside’s Games Clubs. We dived into FONDS and shared our experiences of the project and heard an exclusive episode from the podcast, which will be out next month. We signed off the first half of the show with a final reading from of Chanderkiran Thakur’s article, Dancing on My Own, which took readers on a journey of the inclusive dance clubs around Govanhill.

In the second part of the show, we played a variety of tunes sent in by talented local artists. You can read more about the artists and their music below.  If there are any local bands or artists you would like to review or feature in a future show, get in touch by emailing us at newsroom@greatergovanhill.com
