A New Home for The Well - How You Can Help

Greater Govanhill Magazine would like to pass on their congratulations to The Well for finding a new hub on Allison Street. The Well is a registered Scottish Charity based in Govanhill. They offer free Advice Consultations to clients who are disadvantaged through poverty, racism, limited English language skills, social isolation and simply not knowing how things work in the UK. In order to help with this move, they need to raise £140,000. So far, they have met their targets for fundraising. Please find below their statement on the move and how it will serve as a lifeline to many people in Govanhill.

The Well is delighted to announce that after a very long search, we have found a fantastic new building!  We plan to long-term lease part of a new-build on Allison Street, in the heart of Govanhill.   We have the unique opportunity to fit out the building according to our needs and, of course, those of our clients.  

This new building will give us 50% more space, increasing our capacity to help more people every day.  As we often deal with sensitive topics, such as financial concerns or relationship issues, we will be able to ensure there are more areas where privacy can be achieved for our clients.  The additional space will also allow more room for group activities, such as digital workshops and craft activities.  

The location of the building is perfect: within easy walking distance for the vast majority of our clients, most of whom do not own cars.  Our landlords, Southside Housing Association, are also well-known to us as we have worked in partnership with them for many years to offer a Welfare Rights Surgery.  With the increased space, it is expected to create a bustling community hub where more in the community come for support and advice.  We are looking forward to being able to offer a genuinely warm, welcoming and accessible environment to our clients.
