Letter from the team

This issue delves into past, present and future visions of Govanhill with the magazine, accordingly, being sliced into three sections to focus on these topics. My favourite article would have to be the very last one which sees members of the local community delivering their utopian visions for 2032 Govanhill. It is inspiring and hopeful to see the hopes and dreams of our community etched into our magazine as a little time capsule.

The issue has allowed us here at Greater Govanhill to reflect on the past, present and future of the magazine. Our first issue came out a year and a half ago and it both feels like a lifetime and a blink of an eye since we first went down Victoria Road introducing our community magazine to the neighbourhood.

Fast forward six issues, five awards and countless articles later and we find ourselves in the present-day of the magazine. We have expanded to include training workshops, radio shows and much more. Currently we are working with two groups typically under-represented in the media: young people, and those with experience of the asylum system. We are providing training so that they can tell the stories that matter to them. In this Issue, the Young Voices group interviewed Nicola Sturgeon whilst the latter group will be creating and presenting a show for Refugee Festival Scotland on June 22.

And now we look to the future of the magazine, one that we hope will be full of a range of diverse and unique perspectives on the stories that matter to them. We also hope that the media landscape in the future will reflect the aims of our magazine: independent, diverse, and accessible.

Jack Howse - Editorial and Communication Assistant
