How My Dog Dora Went From Being a Rescue to Finding Fame and a Forever Family

Peggy joined one of our young reporter workshops earlier this year and shared a story about her pet dog Dora.

by Peggy Ewan Griffiths

When I first met Dora she was a scruffy looking lurcher in an old, stone farmhouse. It was her fourth home in her two short years of life.

This is the story of Dora and how she went from a rescue who went from a difficult start in life to a loving family home and getting onto the news.

We were only supposed to visit Dora after a friend said they could no longer keep her but we ended up taking her home that day.

We drove her home in our car and as she climbed out of the back seat whining we started to wonder if we made the right choice.

I was so glad that we were going to get a dog because at first, my dad wasn’t too sure. My mum liked the idea of having a dog and was determined to get Dora, but my dad was more of a cat person.

Just two months after taking Dora home with us there was the COP26 march, so we brought her along. Dora wore a banner that said ‘Paws Climate Change 4 Good’ and we were stopped by journalists who wanted pictures of Dora with the sign.

The next morning we saw Dora in the Huffington Post and even on the BBC!

Dora has been in our family ever since. Even though she can be a bit naughty and takes our lunch when our backs are turned, we still love her.
