Black History Month returns with another year of events to celebrate the lives and achievements of Black people in Britain and highlight the injustice they continue to face through political and structural inequalities. So we listed all the local events surrounding Black History Month.

It’s finally here! We’re so excited to share with you the latest issue of the magazine, focussing on all the arts, culture and subcultures in the area. We’ve started delivering the magazine (many of you hopefully got your hands on a copy at the Govanhill parade) but you’d like a copy sent to you, become a member from as little as £3 a month.

The international biennial festival, Take Me Somewhere, returns to Glasgow for the first time since 2019. Performances will take place across the city with many site-specific installations, including at Tramway, from 13 to 28 October 2023. 

Every issue of Greater Govanhill, we have a poetry corner where a local bard shares some of their finest lines. On National Poetry Day, find your new favourite poet.

The Southside’s skatepark, the Recs, has fallen into disrepair over the years. Greater Govanhill spoke with skaters about how consultation between skaters and Glasgow City Council could improve the Recs, and the importance of community built DIY spaces for urban sports.

In the midst of Winter last year, Greater Govanhill and The Ferret opened the doors to The Community Newsroom. To celebrate the occasion with the local community they were joined by Annette Street Drummers, a group of talented young kids who put on an energised performance to mark the occasion.

This month, look out for Tramway Beyond Walls. The ongoing programme takes performance and creative participation outwith the physical limits of its building, and into the community. The upcoming line-up includes participation, film, and family events – and it’s all free and unticketed.
