Have you always wanted to write performance poetry but don't know where to start?
Maybe you already do, but are afraid of judgement or not being good enough?
Or maybe you just want to share a space with other budding poets?
If so, then this is the workshop for you. It's a fun and inspiring introduction to the basics of spoken word poetry.
In this Zoom workshop, award-winning performance poet, scriptwriter and educator Cat Hepburn (BBC 6 Music, Sonnet Youth, Edinburgh Fringe) will lead you through some writing exercises and give her top tips to creating engaging performance poetry. We'll explore how to come up with ideas, how to get over our fears and more. All experiences welcome.
About Cat:
Cat Hepburn is an award-winning scriptwriter, spoken word artist and educator who has created a variety of work for stage and screen. Her main passions are working with marginalised voices, exploring feminist issues and using contemporary storytelling to empower, provoke and make people laugh. Her writing has been featured on the likes of BBC 6 Music Festival, ITV and the Edinburgh Fringe, and she has worked as a storywriter for TV dramas such as River City (BBC Scotland) and Hollyoaks (Lime Pictures).
Cat’s headlined poetry nights across the UK, and in 2019 supported Dr John Cooper Clarke on his The Luckiest Guy Alive tour. Her debut book #GIRLHOOD (Speculative Books) was celebrated by readers and critics, and her 5 star solo theatre show of the same name was a sell-out hit at last year's Edinburgh Fringe. She’s also the co-founder of Sonnet Youth, one of Scotland’s leading spoken word (now digital) cabaret nights, and was recognised for her work with them in The List Magazine’s Hot 100 in 2019. This year Cat was a nominee for Best Writer at the Scottish Comedy Awards.
Access Information About This Event
This event is for ages 16+ and will be held online. You will need a good internet connection and a laptop/computer/mobile device to join us.
There will be 12 attendees maximum, and the event will feature comfort breaks.

If you have any specific access requirements please indicate when reserving a ticket and we will do our best to meet any requests within our limited budget. We are more able to meet requests made at least two weeks in advance. Events may be recorded for access reasons.
