'Falling Between the Cracks' FGM Aware Webinar

The webinar will introduce the report ‘Falling Between the Cracks’ which was recently published by the University of Strathclyde. The report is informed by the views and experiences of women affected by FGM, and by interviews with key informants from community and third sector organisations. It highlights contradictions in approaches to protecting girls and women from FGM in Scotland and provides recommendations to guide the development of survivor-informed and holistic approaches to ending FGM and supporting potentially affected communities in settling in the UK.

Speakers will be Dr Emmaleena Käkelä and Dinna Likonde, two of the report’s authors, and Naana Otoo- Oyortey, Executive Director of Forward UK. Jan Macleod, Women’s Support Project, will chair the event. There will be the opportunity for questions and discussion, and information will be provided on services and resources. Further details of the programme and speakers will be forwarded to registered participants before the event.

This event is aimed at practitioners and policy makers in all sectors and will be of particular interest to those working in child and adult protection, health, ‘violence against women’ services, BAME organisations and community groups. Community activists and volunteers are also welcome to register.
