Food is an expression of our identity like no other. What we eat, who we eat with, why we eat, what we can/can’t eat, it all stems from who we are.
In this two-hour writing workshop, we will have a safe and open discussion about our relationship with food and food culture beyond the senses and explore and share our different approaches to the things we eat.
By looking at examples of other food writing, we will see how we can use food as a literary gateway to express our identities, and through small writing exercises we will explore how food can be used as a connection device.
Sean Wai Keung is a Glasgow-based writer and performer with research interests in food and migration.
He has released projects with Speculative Books and the National Theatre of Scotland amongst others and is currently a Magnetic North micro-commission recipient and on the Many Voices programme with Bella Caledonia. He has led food writing workshops with the Scottish BAME Writers Network, the Poetry School and Writing Our Legacy. In April 2021, his poetry collection “sikfan glaschu” will be published by Verve.
