Rumpus Room - Young Artist Opportunity
Rumpus Room are offering a new Young Artists Bursary Programme which has been made possible through support from Creative Scotland. The programme will offer 3 young people (aged 18-24yrs) based in Glasgow the funds and opportunity to develop their own creative practice with the support of Rumpus Room artists and collaborators as well as contributing to the development of a 6-month programme of activity at Rumpus Room Studio and Gardens between April - September 2022.
Rumpus Room is an artist-led, not-for-profit organisation working in collaboration with young people on art & social action projects from their base in Govanhill. Established in 2019 by artists and play-workers Catrin Jeans, Nadia Rossi and Rachel Walker, RR studio is currently run by artists, hosting a programme of youth-led activity for children, young people and their families. The studio and garden is a shared experimental studio and play-space where children and young people can work independently and in collaboration with other artists, activists, gardeners, makers, writers, readers and youth and play workers on art and social action projects within their community.
Bursary Fee: £2000 artist fee
Location: Remote and flexible working with option of shared studio space available at Rumpus Room in Govanhill.
Application Deadline: 1st March 2022
Youth Arts Bursary recipients will receive:
£2000 fee for working on the programme between April-September
Up to £1000 towards materials for each bursary
Access to free studio space at Rumpus Room for 6 months
Mentorship & support from artists & producers at Rumpus Room
Opportunity to connect with a creative network of practitioners and with other young artists across art forms
Opportunity to share ideas/work online (via social media takeovers, our blog and website) and offline at events such as public sharings, exhibitions or talks
Youth Arts Bursary commitments:
1 day week of studio time/commitment to your creative practice over 6 months which will involve the following-
The Youth Arts Bursary programme will be devised with the Youth Arts
Bursary recipients to work around their other commitments and will include: weekly studio meetups, peer sharings, mentoring, training, workshop time, artists talks and visits to community spaces, galleries, artists studio visits or other places of interest.
Rumpus Room will work directly with the individual to identify their aims and assist them with opportunities to develop their own work.
Youth Arts Bursary recipients will take part in an event to share our collective learning at the end of the bursary programme.
