Rumpus Room Seeks New Space in Govanhill After Bike For Good Ends Lease

Rumpus Room, an ‘artist-led studio working in collaboration w/ young people, children & families on experimental art & social action projects’, are seeking new studio space in Govanhill – and are raising funds to help with the move.

Notice from Rumpus Room:

We have some sad news to share this week. Our landlords at Langside Lane Bike for Good (BFG) are terminating our lease at the studio alongside our neighbours SEIN. BFG are asking us both to leave as they need more space for their bike project; to store bikes and use as office space.

We are really disappointed to have to leave this space and yard. It's been a very special home to Rumpus, the children and young people, families, artists and neighbours that have made it what it is over the last 3 years.

We are in the process of negotiating a get-out with BFG that's longer than the 4 week period stated in our lease and hope we can come to a reasonable agreement that will cause minimal disruption for all involved.

We held a board meeting last week and a committee meeting earlier this week to unpack this news and discuss the next steps for Rumpus.

In short, we are looking for a new studio space in Govanhill for early 2023. We wanted to share this with our wider community at Rumpus to keep folks informed and to see if anyone might know of any spaces going for us to relocate too.

In terms of space we are looking for:

  • Essentials: Accessible ground floor space in Govanhill, heating, accessible toilets, no smaller than 50 sq metres

  • Desirable: Connected outdoor space, kitchen, shared community

It may be that we need to move to a temporary studio for a short period whilst we find the right space for us to move into long term. Please spread the word, any leads welcomed!

Fundraising

We are also raising funds to help with costs related to the move so come down to our fundraiser this Saturday 12-4pm and bag yourself some brilliant artwork or donate to our pay it forward bank online if you can. Our studio team & committee will also be around on Saturday if anyone wants to discuss this situation or share any info on potential new spaces in person.

Our programme will be postponed for the next few months whilst we focus on the move but, we look forward to having our members and community back in the studio when we have found a new home.

Thanks to everyone for their support with this big unexpected end of year curveball especially Debi and Margaret from our board, Ardis, Leo from the studio team and our brilliant committee.
