GoBike: Safer Streets for Everyone
GoBike is campaigning for Safer Streets for All; we want to make cycling a safe, efficient, clean and healthy travel option for people of all ages and abilities.
Work on the South City Way have restarted, and since lockdown, more people now cycle to work and for leisure. Increased cycling and calmer motor traffic along Victoria Road has already contributed to increased footfall, which is excellent for local businesses. With more outdoor seating, at times there’s a really vibrant Mediterranean feel to the neighbourhood!
But not everything is perfect yet: there are some unsafe junctions e.g. on the South City Way that need to be amended, there is dangerous parking, a cycle network is required to connect the West with the East, parklets and greenery and cycle storage will also be needed for liveable, healthy and safe Low Traffic Neighbourhoods.
GoBike is a Glasgow-wide community organisation that is in contact with Glasgow City Council representatives to channel suggestions for improvements, amendments and new initiatives to the council and contractors. We, the citizens and the community, know best what is locally required! If you want to have your say, join GoBike at www.gobike.org/join-us
The council has recently been awarded £7.5m from the Sustrans #SpacesForPeople programme to support active travel and safe, liveable neighbourhoods.
These are exciting times and there is opportunity for real change. Many GoBike suggestions have already been realised and it is a great time to add your voice.
GoBike also has a Slack online chat for quick communication of suggestions and observations, and an online map where you can pin suggestions to make this easy. You may have seen flyers and posters around.. Let's together make Greater Govanhill a safer, even lovelier place!
