Send us stories of people doing amazing things and let’s bring them into everyone’s homes.

“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members”

— CORETTA SCOTT KING

When we decided to launch Greater Govanhill to shine a light on our amazing community, none of us expected the turn of events that have disrupted the fabric of our society. Yet, they have proved what we already knew; there is so much good will on these streets.

The quote above from civil rights activist, Coretta Scott King, keeps ringing in our ears. The compassion actions of so many people prove just how great Govanhill really is.

We want to capture these positive news stories, preserve them for future generations and share them with those who may not be online or on social media. And we need your help.

So, ahead of our magazine launch, we will create a page of this website dedicated to sharing all the good news stories that we keep hearing. We’ll also create a Greater Govanhill e-newsletter, and a version that can be printed at home, and shared with those who might need a little cheering up.

Let’s bring these stories into everyone’s homes, to serve as an antidote to the negative news stories that dominate the headlines.

Whether you’ve never written anything before or you’re a professional journalist, it’s your stories we’re interested in, not the writing. All articles you send will be edited by a professional journalist and, if you’d like, we’ll give you lots of tips and feedback.

If you’re stuck at home, without much to do, then get on the phone, speak to people, find out what’s happening where you live and share it with us.

If you’re a child or young person home from school and you’ve always thought about being a writer, now’s your chance! And if you want some advice before you start, just get in touch.

As well as news, features, interviews and opinion articles, we’re also interested in poems, pictures and videos. However you want to express yourself - send it in!
