Watch Now: Refugee Festival Scotland Shorts

In the run-up to Refugee Festival Scotland 2023, Greater Govanhill ran a series of filmmaking workshops for New Scots that helped them to create short films on the stories that matter to them. Watch the shorts below.

Last year for Refugee Festival Scotland, we helped a group of New Scots produce a radio show for Radio Buena Vida called Sound of Refugee Voices. After the show, we asked the group if there was any other skills they would like to learn and many of them expressed a desire to learn about producing videos.

So for this year’s festival, we hosted a series of workshops that focused on just that. Led by Sam Gonçalves, the workshops gave particpants the tools to tell their own stories. Many of the group from last year attended and we met so many new faces that we hope will continue to be a part of the Greater Govanhill wider community.

During Scottish Refugee Festival 2023, we had a premiere of all the films where. As well as screening the videos, there was a discussion with the participants on their chosen topics. The topics they picked ranged from post-Brexit food shortages, to motherhood, to their asylum journey.

We are now happy to share all the videos online.

We are massively thankful to all the local filmmakers who helped to edit the videos and the Scottish Refugee Council for their continued support.
