Our 2021 Year in Review
We've been looking back at what we've achieved this year…
Firstly, we couldn't have done any of this without you: our members, readers, contributors, advertisers, funders and supporters. So a very heartfelt thank you!
Numbers by no means tell the whole story, but it's still a nice way to reflect what we've been up since January:
4 magazines produced
Our first 4 members of staff hired
150 members signed up
4 radio shows produced
4 new board members
130 website articles - written by 80 contributors - in 10 languages
3 awards (and 3 more nominations)!
More importantly than that, we've had some lovely feedback comments from you, including:
"I have seen people from a wide range of backgrounds reading the magazine in cafes, on the street and in the park, and I feel it is succeeding beyond my expectations in its aims of bring the community together and providing wider representation than mainstream media."
"Great to be introduced to local figures/individuals, and get an understanding of activities that are happening which are invisible to me as someone relatively new to the area/living alone, particularly during the pandemic."
"Although I'm aware of some of the positive work going on in the area by some great organisations it has been really interesting to gain further insight, through the articles in this publication, into the wide range of services and activities addressing issues of inclusion, community regeneration etc within the area."
"Often we're wary of uncomfortable about 'the unknowns', be that other cultures, business we're not familiar with, ways of life, and it can be easy to feel that the issues you face are yours alone. The magazine gave an insight in to many of these unknowns, and reminded me that issues we face in this area are being met with love, community spirit and a whole host of amazing people."
"I thought I knew my area pretty well but there were gems (buildings, projects, art works etc) that I hadn’t come across and which I’m now looking forward to hunting down. Especially in these times, it great to reminded that so many people are working so hard for positive reasons and to feel connected to my community in a way that’s safe."
"I've been reading it slowly, treasuring it and sucking on each article like a good boiled sweet. Which is great as the calorie content is zero! Well done! Best wishes, a very happy reader."
