Episode three of The Greater Govanhill Show aired on Radio Buena Vida last Friday. The show took a look at community and how different facets of this concept are expressed in our local area.

Presented by Craig Hunter and Giacinta Frisillo live from Some Great Reward on Victoria Road, Friday’s episode included:

  • Music from local artists Clarissa Woods, Heir of the Cursed and Hurrian Cult Legacy.

  • A discussion with Danny, one of the owners of Transylvania Shop and Coffee. He discussed what led to the opening of the space and the positive response the business has received from the community.

  • A guided walk with Anne Milne, who shared part of her project ‘Wander and Wonder’. Anne took us on an audio walk around the Southside, taking in the sounds of our area in an immersive, calming listening experience.

  • A discussion with members of the local community brass band, Brass, Aye? Listeners can hear live music from the band as well as the perspectives of its members on their experiences playing with the group.

  •  A conversation with Aimee Bea Ballinger, founder of Burning House Books on Cathcart Road. Amy discussed the space’s focus on queer literature and countercultural art as well as her experience running the Burning House Book Club.

  • A selection of music heard being played in and around Govanhill, submitted by our listeners.
