Greater Govanhill Sound of Refugee Voices Radio Show

Greater Govanhill is pleased to announce that we have received a small amount of funding from the Scottish Refugee Council to produce a radio show on Radio Buena Vida for Refugee Festival Scotland.

This year, the festival will explore the theme of ‘Stories’. The radio show will be created and presented by people who have experience being in the asylum system and will be a show full of stories and music.

We will provide FREE training sessions in different audio journalism skills including how to produce a story, edit it and presenting.

This training will consist of 2 or 3 workshops where participants will learn different skills. These workshops will be in person and will happen in Govanhill during the month of May. They will equip participants with the necessary skills to create and record their own story.

We have not set a date for these yet as we are hoping to find times and dates that suits everyone who is interested.

The show will be broadcast on Radio Buena Vida during Refugee Festival Scotland week (17-26 June). We are planning on hosting a listening party whilst the show is being broadcast.

Greater Govanhill has presented a number of shows on Radio Buena Vida, check out the Soundcloud link above to get a feel for what our past radio shows have sounded like.

We are looking for participants with a range of interests to help create this radio show for Refugee Festival Scotland. Whether you are interested in learning audio skills, have a story to tell or any music recommendations, we would love to hear from you.

We strive to make this opportunity available to everyone so if there are any financial barriers (such as transportation costs) we can discuss options for this. We can also provide translation and language support wherever needed.

If you are interested, please fill out this form or email jack@greatergovanhill.com or text +447851033335.
